A crowded folder is rarely the result of one big decision. It grows a little at a time: a receipt downloaded after checkout, a presentation from a colleague, an image saved for later. FileJuggler.online gives those files a practical structure without asking you to install another application. Choose a folder, decide what belongs together, and review the proposed changes before applying them. The actual files stay on your device throughout the process.
This free online file organizer works with the folder you explicitly select. It cannot silently browse your entire disk, and it does not ask you to upload documents to a website. A compatible browser provides the connection between the interface and your local folder. You stay in control of the scope, the rules, and the moment changes begin.
A fresh start for your Downloads folder
Downloads is often a mixture of things you need today and things you have forgotten about. Start by selecting that folder and keeping nested scanning off. The Clean Downloads preset groups recognized files into categories such as PDFs, images, archives, installers, and code. Review the preview to make sure the categories suit the way you work. Files with unfamiliar extensions remain visible under Other.
A category is a useful starting point, but it is not a decision about whether a file matters. An old installer might still be useful, and an unnamed PDF might be an important receipt. This downloads folder organizer does not decide what to delete. If you create a cleanup rule, move matching files into FileJuggler Trash so you can review them manually later.
Sort files by type or by extension
Choose file type when you think in everyday categories. A photographer might want JPEG, PNG, and WebP files together in Images. Someone preparing a report may prefer Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations as separate destinations. The extension map identifies formats from their filenames; it does not inspect the contents or guarantee that a file contains what its suffix suggests.
Choose extension when the exact format matters. The extension preset creates destinations such as PDF, DOCX, JPG, or ZIP. That can help when preparing a conversion task or handing one kind of asset to another person. A file without an extension has its own destination. Sorting changes the location of a file, not its format, so moving a PDF never converts it into a Word document.
Build rules around your actual workflow
Quick Organizer is the shortest route to a useful folder structure. Custom Rules is for work that needs more detail. For example, match extension PDF and filename containing invoice, then move the result to Documents/Invoices. Add another rule for images whose names start with a project code. Use AND when every condition must match, or OR when any of several conditions should be enough.
Nested groups let you express more precise choices without writing code. You might match PDFs that contain either invoice or receipt. Put specific rules above broad ones and enable Stop after this rule matches when the first destination should win. Rules use file metadata, including names, sizes, paths, and modified dates. They do not read document text, recognize faces, or inspect the contents of an archive.
Find large files and older material
The large file preset groups files above a size threshold expressed in megabytes. Use it to gather videos, disk images, or other sizeable items for review. Moving a file within the same storage device does not free disk space. Copy operations need additional room, and safe moves temporarily need space for the destination before the source is removed.
The old file preset uses time since the last modification. A year-based preset groups files by their actual modified year. Neither option claims to know when a file was created, downloaded, or photographed. If those distinctions matter, use the preview to check filenames and context before organizing. In custom rules, size ranges and before-or-after dates can narrow down the files that belong in a particular destination.
Preview every file change before organizing
Preview changes is a dry run. It scans no extra file contents, evaluates your selected rules, and checks whether destination names already exist. The table shows each current path, action, destination, and applicable rule. Search for a filename or filter for moves, copies, renames, conflicts, or unchanged files. Large result sets are paginated so the page remains manageable.
Look at a few ordinary files and a few unusual ones before proceeding. A destination with the wrong folder depth often indicates that Preserve relative subfolder structure should be changed. An unexpectedly broad match usually means a filename condition needs another restriction. Adjust the rule and generate a new preview. Nothing in the selected folder changes until you explicitly choose Organize files.
Move, copy, and rename files in bulk
A move places the file in a new folder, while a copy keeps the original and creates another file. A rename changes the filename within its current location. Rename templates can include the original name, extension, modified year, month, day, parent folder, and a sequence number. The preview shows the resulting names so you can catch missing extensions or unwanted patterns before applying them.
Safe moves use a copy, verification, and removal sequence. If the destination cannot be written or verified, the original remains. If copying succeeds but removing the source fails, the activity log explains that both files remain. Operations run sequentially to avoid overwhelming the local disk. Pause or cancel takes effect between operations, letting the current file finish safely.
Handle name conflicts deliberately
Keep both is the default conflict policy. When a destination filename is occupied, the organizer finds an available numbered name rather than silently replacing a file. Skip existing leaves that operation alone. Replace existing is available only after an explicit acknowledgement, because the previous destination contents are not retained for undo. The activity log records the final destination used.
Session undo can reverse supported completed operations when the files are still unchanged and original locations are free. It is a convenience, not a backup system. Manual edits, changed permissions, a closed tab, and overwritten files can limit recovery. For important collections, keep a separate backup and try a small folder first. Review partial-success messages instead of assuming every queued action completed.
Your files stay on your device
The browser reads metadata during scanning and reads bytes locally when copying and verifying files. FileJuggler.online has no file upload endpoint, no database for documents, and no account requirement. Custom rules and small preferences may be stored in localStorage on your device. Folder scans, file handles, and activity records remain in the current session rather than being saved as a permanent remote history.
Visiting the website still makes ordinary requests for pages, scripts, and locally hosted fonts. The hosting provider can receive normal request metadata. That is different from uploading the contents of a selected folder. Review the privacy policy for the distinction, and remember that your browser controls folder permissions. Selecting a different folder does not grant the website access to everything else on your computer.
An on-demand tool with clear boundaries
Direct folder organization needs a secure page and a browser that supports local directory access and writable file streams. Current desktop Chrome, Edge, and compatible Chromium browsers are the intended environment. The interface checks support before enabling the picker. Safari, Firefox, and mobile browsers may not provide the required capabilities; the educational pages remain available even when the organizer cannot write files.
This automatic file sorting tool applies rules when you ask it to run. It is not a continuously running desktop watcher and cannot monitor Downloads after the tab closes. Use it for an occasional reset, a project handoff, or a repeatable weekly cleanup. Export your custom rules if you want to keep the same workflow across devices, then choose the appropriate local folder each time.

Yes. The organizer is free to use. You do not need an account, subscription, or paid file processing service.
Do my files get uploaded to a server?+
No. Folder scanning, rule evaluation, and file operations happen in your browser on your device. Normal website requests reach the hosting provider, but the app does not send your file contents, names, or rules to a server.
Which browsers support direct folder organization?+
Use a current desktop Chrome, Edge, or compatible Chromium browser over HTTPS. The tool checks for the required browser APIs. Browsers without direct folder writing can read the website and guides but cannot organize local folders here.
Can I organize my Downloads folder?+
Yes. Select Downloads in the browser folder picker, choose Clean Downloads, and review the proposed category folders. You can choose any other folder you have permission to access.
Can I sort files by extension, size, or modified date?+
Yes. Use the extension, large file, old file, or modified year presets. Custom rules also combine these conditions with filenames and relative folder paths. Dates come from the last modified metadata, not file creation dates.
Can I preview every change first?+
Yes. Preview changes generates a plan without creating folders or writing files. Search and filter the plan, check conflicts, and click Organize files only when the destinations look right.
What happens when two files have the same name?+
Keep both is the default. The organizer adds a number to the destination filename. You can choose Skip existing or explicitly allow replacement. Replaced destination files cannot be restored by session undo.
Can I undo an organization?+
The current tab can reverse recorded moves, copies, and renames when the relevant files are still unchanged and original paths are available. Replacements and created folders are not restored. Keep backups of important files.
Does it keep watching my folder after I close the tab?+
No. This is an on-demand organizer. Closing or reloading the tab ends the working session and removes the in-memory activity and undo records. Run the organizer again whenever you need it.
Can I save my own sorting rules?+
Yes. Custom rules are saved in this browser’s local storage. Export a JSON rule file to keep a backup or transfer rules to another browser. File contents and folder scans are not saved in local storage.
